The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) attracts people because of its anti mainstream character displayed by the author. Storytelling about friendship of a kindhearted giant with a little girl named Sophie also intrigues the readers, how could it happen?

The encounter between the two distinct creatures began when Sophie was kidnapped by BFG at night. The BFG worried Sophie would spread the words that she saw a giant. Although she was afraid and tried to escape at first, Sophie finally realized that BFG is different from other giants. BFG does not eat human being, but he is a vegetarian. BFG argues that eating human being is a crime, and so does Sophie. Having the same opinion makes them understand each other and work together to against the evil giants. At the end of the story, they were able to defeat those giants with the Queen of England’s help.

There are some moral lessons that the author tries to convey to the readers. The main point featured by Roald Dahl is a friendship. Explains how two lonely creatures eventually find their true friends. The author delivers a message about a good friendship despite the differences between two characters. Sophie never blames the BFG for his inaccuracy in speech, and BFG greatly appreciates Sophie’s existence as an encouragement of his life. They both accept the lack of each other. That is what true friends mean.

Second, BFG tells people not to judge a person by his/her appearance, just like a book, “do not judge a book by its cover.” Normally, people think that giants are big frightening creatures. They eat human and make a mess. Luckily, Sophie is a smart girl. She changed her mind after getting to know the BFG. She realized that not all giants eat human and not everything that looks bad is really bad. Perhaps, if it is not an open minded person like Sophie, BFG probably will not have a friend.

Third, as the BFG said ‘two wrongs do not make a right’. BFG does not think to do the same way as the other giants treat him. Even though he becomes a violent object by the evil giants, BFG still be wise. He chooses to find a good way to punish the evil giants peacefully. So, instead of take revenge, he went to the Queen of England for a help.

Fourth, the story tells us not to underestimate someone. The evil giants think that BFG is a freak because he does not eat human. They mock the BFG and say that he is a weak giant. The worse, they make BFG as their violent object. However, BFG is not as weak as they think. He gets up and dare to stop the ill-treatment he was receiving.

Lastly, there are many important moral lessons that BFG implies. Readers both adults and children can take the moral lessons of the story. Discussing about friendship, bullying and injustice, the story can open the readers mind about the importance of friendship and how bullying and injustice should not be happen in this world.
